The Telemann Baroque Ensemble was originally formed in 1977 and comprised various professional and gifted amateur musicians who met together for the sheer delight of exploring the then often neglected baroque repertoire.

Over the intervening years they have appeared at a variety of places including Bramall Hall, Tatton Park, Manchester Cathedral, Ordsall Hall, Little Moreton Hall, Flixton House, and Heaton Hall, and they have performed at the last three Saddleworth Festivals.

Peter Collier, who will direct the ensemble's Festival Concert from the harpsichord, is a Graduate of the Guildhall School of Music and London University. He has put together a very comprehensive library of over a thousand music scores, facsimiles and first editions of early music ranging from solo sonatas to full orchestral concertos, all of which are used extensively by the Telemann Baroque Ensemble.

The ensemble specialises in programmes where music by little-known composers is featured alongside music by the established composers of the period.

Peter Collier introduces the music with anecdotes and quotations from letters, diaries and other persons contemporary with the music.
