Roy Chappell and the Dave Donohoe Band

A salute to the finest ever singer of popular songs
Saturday 5th June, 8.00 p.m. at Delph Band Club

If crooning is your style then Roy Chappell will be right up your street. Roy sings in the style of Bing Crosby and combines this with friendly light comedy patter and a few impressions along the way.

Roy has travelled world-wide, appearing on American radio and TV alongside such artistes as Bob Hope. Roy also sang at the unveiling of the Bing Crosby statue at Gonzaga University, Washington USA in the presence of Bing's wife Katherine and Bing's sister. On October 5th 1983 he appeared at the Queen Elizabeth Hall, London, on the Sid Philips Tribute Concert with Sheila Tracy, Kenny Ball and Alan Dell.

In November 1990 Roy portrayed Bing in the 1940's style gala show in London, sharing the bill with Dame Vera Lynn, Frankie Vaughan, Ernie Wise, Sir John Mills, Pete Murray, Leslie Crowther and Roy Hudd.

The Bing Crosby Historical Society of America has produced a collector's record with Bing Crosby on one side and Roy Chappell on the other. This has been played on the David Jacobs BBC Radio Show and various others and can be obtained from Roy.

Trombonist Dave Donohoe has been leading bands in the New Orleans style since 1962, and a band in his own name since 1973. He is listed in 'The International Who's Who in Popular Music,' and in John Chiltern's 'Who's Who in British Jazz.'

In 1971 Dave was chosen by comedian and clarinettist Woody Allen to play with him in the New Orleans Jazz Festival. In 1977 he did a tour of the USA in a band which included reed player, Sammy Rimmington and pianist Butch Thompson and has made eleven albums in total, most in his own name.

The Donohoe Band has made numerous tours in Europe including two package tours with three bands from New Orleans, plus eleven appearances at the Festa of New Orleans Music in Ascona, Switzerland: a record for a British band. It was on one of these trips that Dave met and became friends with Roy Chappell. They have played on the same bill as legends such as Dr John, Joe Cocker and Van Morrison.

Dave Donohoe's interest in many kinds of popular music ensures that the band is always entertaining, melodic and swinging.
