Hot Air Balloons

Churchill Playing Fields
Saturday 29th May Sunday 30th May from 6.00 a.m.

This invitation meet is expected to attract around 20 entrants. They will assemble on Churchill playing Fields, where there should be much activity to see throughout the day.

Weather permitting there will be early morning practice flights on Saturday, followed from 2.00p.m. onwards by a display of tethered balloons.

Following this display, they will take off to engage in a Hare and Hounds Race

One balloon acts as Hare and after take-off will alter its direction by using the different winds at varying heights. The hound balloons will take off 5 to 10 minutes later and will try to follow the Hare.

The Hare will fly for 45 minutes and then land.

The Hound balloons will fly as close to the landing spot as possible and either land there or throw a marker near to the basket of the Hare balloon. The closest balloon or marker wins.

Four balloons will also appear at the Hollyville Son et Lumiere, "Round the World in 80 minutes" .

The early morning practice flights will be repeated on Sunday and later, after dark at around 10.00 p.m. there will be a Moon Glow when tethered balloons are inflated and, illuminated by their gas burners, give a stunning, multi-coloured display
